Here at Grassy's we have the wonderful opportunity to work with a very special type of colleague. Maremmas!
Maremmas are a breed of working guard dog who protect a wider range of livestock, for us that's the chooks. The Maremmas are crucial to keeping the girls safe from threats on the ground, like foxes, and threats from the sky, eagles. We couldn't operate how we do without them so here you can see some pictures and learn a little more about each dog!
Casey
Maremma in Charge
Casey was our first Maremma and he's been with us since 2011. Picking him up as a puppy, it was definitely a learning curve for us luckily he showed us what to do.
Carlisle
Professional Pat Lover
Carlisle was the second maremma to join the team, along with his brother Chase. A lover of cuddles Carlisle specialises in escaping from his paddock during the day in search of cuddles and pats and then returning in the evening to guard the girls.
Chase
Cutie
Chase came with Carlisle to the farm in 2012, super cute and fluffy he kept his cute face even as he grew up. Maremmas can be quite cunning and Chase certainly know's how to read body language. He loves a pat as much as anyone but as soon as you even think about needing to catch him, well good luck!
