Ian McGrath 'Grassy'
Business Owner
Ian is a sheep grazier come free range egg farmer who is the owner operator of the farm. Born and bred here on Wattle Valley Ian has always had a passion for agriculture. Originally farming Merino sheep with some cattle on the side, Ian moved to producing Dorper sheep in the early 2000's. After reading about the benefits of free range hens Ian delved into producing eggs in 2009. 11 years later he is still passionate about producing quality products in the agriculture industry.
Linda Thane
Farmers Wife
Linda Thane is Ian's Wife, they married in 1996 and later had their daughter Kathleen. Linda grew up in the Sydney suburb of Gordon where she then attended Macquarie University before becoming an air traffic controller. She Moved to Canberra for work for a period before moving to the town of Yass where she met Ian. Linda has since retired from her position as an environmental specialists for Air Services Australia and is now at the farm full time. Linda has a keen interest in sustainability and is active member of the Bowning-Bookham Landcare group. She can also be found riding her super cute pony, Mary Pants.
Kathleen 'Kathy' McGrath
Boss's Daughter
Kathy is the daughter of Ian and Linda, she was born in August of 1996 and grew up with all the animals at Wattle Valley. Always having a keen interest in horses Kathy has competed in equestrian events all her life, specifically Eventing. After completing year 12 in 2014 she took 18 months off education to pursue Eventing before commencing university. Kathy is scheduled to complete a bachelor of Business Management in May of 2020 from the University of Canberra. Living part time over in Canberra while studying, Kathy learnt how little people who were born and raised in the city understand about farming thus she hopes to be able to promote farming in a positive light to educated people.
